These are the ONLY occurrences of the word begotten in the entire Old-and-New-Testament Revised Standard Version Bible:

Leviticus 18:11 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife's daughter, begotten by your father, since she is your sister.
Job 38:28 "Has the rain a father, or who has begotten the drops of dew?
Psalm 2:7 I will tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my son, today I have begotten you.
Ezekiel 47:22 You shall allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the aliens who reside among you and have begotten children among you. They shall be to you as native-born sons of Israel; with you they shall be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
Acts 13:33 this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, 'Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee.'
Hebrews 1:5 For to what angel did God ever say, "Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"?
Hebrews 5:5 So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, "Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee.

Webster's Dictionary defines "begotten" as: generated.

Notice that in the Leviticus 18:11, Job 38:28, and Ezekiel 47:22 references, "begotten" implies producing, creating, or reproducing children.

In all the other references, we note that the verb begotten relates both to today as to when it was done, and to Jesus (THE Son [and not "daughter"] of God).

It should be clear by Scripture that the earthly nature of the God-man Jesus did not exist before He was conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary. Thus, the human nature of Jesus as the son of man [not "woman"] was "begotten" by Mary because the Holy Spirit and Power of The Most High "overshadowed" her.

However, as to when Jesus was "begotten" with His Divine and non-human nature, it might not be clear to everyone as to when that "today" happened pertaining to the confined-time-and-space moment Jesus was designated, declared, appointed, or - best yet - manifested the Father's Son and therefore "begotten" (as, for example, either at the conception of Jesus within Mary [the non-maryolatrous womb which bore Him and the non-maryolatrous breasts that He sucked], or else when Jesus was raised from the dead after His crucifixion).

It almost goes without saying, of course, that Scripture plainly indicates the Triune God has already existed in all three Persons (e.g. Father, Son, Holy Spirit) for all eternity past. To wit, the Son of God is Divine part of the Trinitarian I AM who both spoke from The Burning Bush to Moses and declared Himself such in the gospel of Saint John in the New Testament, and as such I AM was (and yet is) Son of God both before His conception within Mary and His resurrection from the dead after being crucified.

In other words, there was no time in past eternity when the Father Person of the Trinity suddenly created, made, conceived, birthed, produced, generated, concocted, connived, nor reproduced the Son of God Person of the Holy Trinity, nor was such done pertaining to the Holy Spirit Person of the Holy Trinity at any point in eternity past. All three Persons always existed as semantically designated.

The nearly-archaic word begotten has a VERY special meaning. Both factors of pre-existence AND incarnation must be present to legitimately describe any lifeform or living entity as: "begotten." Therefore, typical natural conceptions of humans cannot be termed examples of "begotten" (in spite of bible-translation mistranslations), because most every human being never pre-existed before their conception (even though the LORD had foreknowledge of their future existence).

Although their trinitarian-like (God-image) spirit, soul, and body were created by the Lord at their conception in the womb of their mother by mysterious union of sperm and egg, and those three components of spirit and soul were incarnated within a tiny conceptualized fleshly body, a description of them being begotten cannot be applied, because of the absence of: pre-existence. Not so in the case of the always-and-eternally pre-existing Son of God, named Jesus when He was incarnated in mother Mary!

Thus, it is lamentably misleading for the Nicene Creed to state that the Son of God was "begotten of His Father before all worlds" even though it adds: "begotten, not made," because it is logical to believe our Lord Jesus was "begotten" at the moment of His conception by union of The Father through the Holy Spirit within the virgin Mary.

Moreover, that Creed amplifies that erroneous presumption by the words: "God from God, Light from Light, Very God from Very God" - again wrongly implying NON-equality of the Persons of the Holy Trinity, as if the Son of God is inferior to the Father, and perhaps even originated or was generated out of the Father alone, without Mary's involvement.

Added to that, the Creed begins with a "I believe in God the Father Almighty, who created heavens and earth." In fact, though, it was The SON of God who created heavens and earth according to the first chapter of Hebrews in the New Testament.

Other parts of the Nicene Creed are dubious and disturbing, such as Jesus having suffered under Pontius Pilate - thus inferring not only the legal time and civil-government jurisdictory when and by whom Jesus was crucified (which is OK), but also implying that Pilate alone (and not also and even more: jealous disbelieving jewish scribes and pharisees) was to blame for murdering Jesus by injust lynching and pseudo-legitimate "legal execution."

It gets worse. Merely having suffered and buried under Pilate is in no way synonymous with forthrightly stating that Jesus: died (rather than suffering so much He was in a temporary coma). The Apostle's Creed compensates on that point, but states that Jesus "decended into Hell" (and thus began to purgatorially burn in fiery torment there for a little while)?

It is understandable why worldly people, assuming the false wordings of the Creed are instead Holy Writ, can ridicule, revile, and reject Christianity......or relegate Jesus to simply a prophet or a good man who either thought of himself too highly or was thought of too highly by others!

Also, the Creed states that Jesus "rose again." Again? Once was enough! To infer that He rose out of the Earth at his conception is bad enough, but to put that on par with Him rising from the dead is intolerable!

To profess allegiance to the Holy CATHOLIC Church as the Nicene Creed states necessitates reasonable implication that loyalty to the denominationally-sectarian and significantly-cultic Roman Catholic Church and/or "Church Catholic Universal" is both required and demanded. We genuine, living, elect saints instead thank God for the Body-of-Christ Holy Acts 11:26 CHRISTIAN Church.....also keeping in mind that baptized for the remission of sins as stated in the Creed does NOT mean that being baptized atones for sins, which sacrificial atonement was done once and for all by Christ Jesus alone!
