Land Mines

During ground warfare, one of the types of devices used by the enemy are small but deadly land mines hidden slightly under the ground but sometimes slightly exposed on top, designed to be trigger-detonated by soldiers stepping on them unawares or accidentally.

Some of those land mines do not detonate immediately upon being stepped on, but instead explode when soldiers step off them after stepping on them.

Not only with military-armament combat, but in many other morally-related applications, Biblical principles of avoiding even lethal harm (not simply from land mines but also even possible fatal injuries caused by tripping over trap wires, slipping on ice hidden by snow, falling into pits covered with brush, springing steel animal traps, falling into loose rock crevices, and so forth) . . . can be consistently utilized by the vigilant who are careful to never be careless nor pompously presume what should not be presumed.

There are other safety precautions available and used which preserve and protect the lives of soldiers who manage to survive hostile confrontations, and they are a well-timed discretionary alteration between being overt and covert, attack and retreat, aggressive assaulting and hiding, being wisely offensive when need be, but also defensive when circumstances require that.

For example, the prudent soldier hides behind a rock or suitable barrier when shot at, then cautiously with alert calmness aims his shots with precision accuracy if then as he detects such can successfully be accomplished without return harm to himself -- rather than arrogantly exposing or even flaunting himself into a rather-predictable easy-target flurry of bullets from opponents while wasting his ammunition (until struck down) in a mostly-miss-and-not-hit wild rage.

The righteous soldier - no matter who is adversary is, and no matter what stumbling blocks of whatever types are planted against him by whoever - reads and remembers much of the following admonitions and advice:

Genesis 49:17 Dan shall be a serpent in the way, a viper by the path [ or landmine in the field ], that bites the horse's heels so that his rider falls backward.

The following verse sounds like what happens sometimes during a checkers game, or an ambush:

Numbers 22:24 Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on either side.
24 Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on either side.
25 And when the mule saw the angel of the LORD, she pushed against the wall, and pressed Balaam's foot against the wall; so he struck her again.
26 Then the angel of the LORD went ahead, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.
27 When the mule saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he struck the mule with his staff.
