Does God smile? Does the LORD laugh? If He does, what does He smile or laugh at?

Does He enjoy a "play on words?" Slapstick comedy? Clever use of homonyms?

Remember the antics of the Bowery Boys, and when Moe of the Three Stooges bonked Curly or Larry when either one or both bonked him, or were being carelessly stupid or disruptive in some way? The same with Ollie bopping Stan in a Laurel and Hardy flick?

Job 22:19 The righteous see it and are glad; the innocent laugh them to scorn.

Psalm 52:6 The righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,
Psalm 52:7 "See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and sought refuge in his wealth!"

Proverbs 1:26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when panic strikes you

Proverbs 24:17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles;
Proverbs 24:18 lest the LORD see it, and be displeased, and turn away His anger from him.

Luke 10:20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

Revelation 18:20 Rejoice over her, heaven, saints, apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!"

Figurative associations applied to literal situations in jest sometimes have biting sarcasm to prove some point:

Matthew 19:24 "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Mark 10:25 "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Luke 18:25 "For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Humps and all. And I've heard that camels stink. Perhaps.

In any case, the "eye of a needle" is not limited to some kind of a yoke or harness or gate pertaining to camel constriction or movement, as some questionably-"christian" weirdos have ridiculously suggested . . . destroying the intended ludicrousness mixed with seriousness of Christ's comment made. Their explain-it-away commentary about a literal eye of a [ sewing ] needle is not funny at all, is totally devoid of edifying sarcasm, and is grossly disrespectful of those at least somewhat proficient at weaving, stitching, and mending fishing nets or whatever.

According to my Bible software, search for the word "smile" in both the Old and New Testaments of the RSV yields no result. However, grins on the pleased face of the Almighty might have been and yet be present at times, according to the following references:

Numbers 24:1 When Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not go, as at other times, to look for omens, but set his face toward the wilderness.
2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and saw Israel encamping tribe by tribe. And the Spirit of God came upon him,
3 and he took up his discourse, and said, "The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,
4 the oracle of him who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, but having his eyes uncovered:
5 how fair are your tents, Jacob, your encampments, Israel!

First Kings 3:5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask what I shall give you."
6 And Solomon said, "You have shown great and continual love to your servant David my father, because he walked with you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you; and you have kept for him this great and continual love, and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day.
7 And now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.
8 And your servant is among your people whom you have chosen, a great people, who cannot be numbered or counted for quantity.
9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to govern this your great people?"
10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this.

Psalm 41:11 By this I know that you are pleased with me, in that my enemy has not triumphed over me.

Matthew 3:17 . . . and wow, a Voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
Matthew 17:5 He was still speaking, when wow, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a Voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him."
Mark 1:11 and a Voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."
Luke 3:22 . . . and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form, as a dove, and a Voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

Here is something admittedly "foolish" to reverently giggle about:

First Corinthians 1:21 For because, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach [ i.e. a formerly dead man who became alive again somewhat over in Israel around 2000 years ago has - by His being quasi-illegally crucified to death on some cross - atoned for all the sins of the penitent believing that "gospel" or foreshadowing of such, who lived before Him, during His life on Earth, and afterwards, wherever those absolved ones were located on planet Earth or wherever else ] to save those who believe.

And so God has been, and continues to be, happy:

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was attested as having pleased God.

Respectfully, God got his jollies from Enoch because of Enoch's faith, and others:

Second Peter 1:17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father and the Voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,"
Second Peter 1:18 we heard this Voice borne from heaven, for we were with Him on The Holy Mountain [ of Transfiguration ].

So, there must be justifiable occasion for laughter, for both God and us, because:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; [ and a time to heterosexually genitalize, a time to not heterosexually genitalize ]
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

So, maybe the Omniscient and Omnipotent expresses a good-natured quiet-but-hearty chuckle now and then, with an aura of seriousness behind it, as He watches all His human creatures upon Earth, and sees whatever they do:

Exodus 12:23 For the LORD will pass through to slay the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not allow The Destroyer to enter your houses to slay you.

Deuteronomy 32:36 For the LORD will vindicate his people and have compassion on His servants, when He sees that their power is gone, and there is none remaining, bond or free.

Job 11:11 For He knows worthless men; when He sees iniquity, will He not consider it?
Job 34:21 For His eyes are upon the ways of a human, and he sees all his/her steps.

Psalm 33:13 The LORD looks down from heaven, He sees all the sons/daughters of humans.

Isaiah 42:18 Hear, you deaf; and look, you blind, that you may see!
19 Who is blind [ and cannot see loose-long-haired-mopheaded, naked-armed, nude-legged, soxlessly bare-footed female humans ] but my servant, or deaf as my messenger whom I send [ and cannot hear the erotically-titillating voices of sexist-feminist female newscasters on radio and TV ]? Who is blind as my dedicated one, or blind as the servant of the LORD?
20 He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear.
21 The LORD was pleased, for his righteousness' sake, to magnify His law and make it glorious.
22 But this is a people robbed and plundered, they are all of them trapped in holes and hidden in prisons; they have become a prey with none to rescue, a spoil with none to say, "Restore!"
23 Who among you will give ear to this, will attend and listen for the time to come?
24 Who gave up Jacob to the spoiler, and Israel to the robbers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned, in whose ways they would not walk, and whose law they would not obey?
25 So he poured upon him the heat of His anger and the might of battle; it set Him on fire round about, but he did not understand; it burned him, but he did not take it to heart.

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man/woman sows, that he/she will also reap.

Oh yes . . . God indeed laughs. He might not roll in the aisle doing it, but He likely considers some things quite hilarious:

Psalm 2:4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the LORD has them in derision.
Psalm 2:5 Then He will speak to them in His wrath, and terrify them in His fury . . .

Psalm 37:13 . . . but the LORD laughs at the wicked, for He sees that his day is coming.
Psalm 59:8 But you, LORD, do laugh at them; you do hold all the nations in derision.

So God has understandable fun watching the shenanigans of His sinful human creatures, and planning retribution accordingly:

Romans 11:9 And David says, "Let their table become a snare and a trap, a pitfall and a retribution for them."

And requital:

Deuteronomy 7:10 and requites to their face those who hate Him, by destroying them; He will not be slack with him/her who Hates him, He will requite him/her to his/her face.
Deuteronomy 32:6 Do you thus requite the LORD, you foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?

Deuteronomy 32:41 if I whet my glittering sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will requite those who hate me.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Psalm 41:10 But you do, LORD, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may requite them!
Psalm 54:5 He will requite my enemies with evil; in your faithfulness put an end to them.
Psalm 62:12 . . . to you, Lord, belongs continuous love. For you do requite a man/woman according to his/her work.
Psalm 9:12 He who avenges blood is mindful of them; He does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

Job 34:11 For according to the work of a human He will requite him/her, and according to his/her ways He will make it befall him/her.

Proverbs 24:12 If you say, "Hey, we did not know this," [ we were only obeying governmental orders from the Fuehrer, Obama, The Company, etc. ] does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will He not requite humans according to their work?

Jeremiah 32:17 'Ah Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched [ short-sleeved? ] arm! Nothing is too hard for you,
18 who show continual love to thousands, but do requite the guilt of fathers to their children after them, Oh great and mighty God whose name is the LORD of hosts,
19 great in counsel and mighty in deed; whose eyes are open to all the ways of men/women, rewarding every man/woman according to his/her ways and according to the fruit of his/her doings

Lamentations 3:64 "You will requite them, LORD, according to the work of their hands.

First John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God.
Ezekiel 17:19 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "As I live, surely my oath which he despised, and my covenant which he broke, I will requite upon his head."

Hosea 4:9 And it shall be like people, like priest; I will punish them for their ways, and requite them for their deeds.
Hosea 12:2 The LORD has an indictment against Judah, and will [ non-antisemitically ] punish Jacob according to his ways, and requite him according to his deeds.

Joel 3:4 "What are you to me, Tyre and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you paying me back for something? If you are paying me back, I will requite your deed upon your own head swiftly and speedily."

Romans 12:19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."

Psalm 41:10 But you do, LORD, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may requite them!

Second Timothy 4:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will requite him for his deeds.

First John 4:16 So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who resides in love resides in God, and God resides in him.

Hebrews 10:30 For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge His people."

So, let's imagine a practical-situation scenario.

Let's say that some devious and sneaky gal takes off her car's license plate (so a gas-station's surveillance camera cannot see any license plate numbers to identify) and puts on a fake new-car-sticker (with print so small it is almost illegible) inside her rear window, goes to a gas station which does not require pre-pay cash or credit card, pumps gas, and quietly but quickly takes off without paying for the gas. Let's further assume that the thief goes around the corner, and rips off the black paper around the car and puts it in the trunk, so that the yellow color of the original paint job on the car is visible, so the cops cannot trace the car (except perhaps by NASA's and NSA's topological or spy satellites with high-resolution cameras hovering way above Earth in orbit).

The LORD sees everything the thief did, and says to Michael, His Archangel of War: "Well, Mike, I guess that it is time for that yellow car's water pump to break down. What do you think?"

Mike: "If not that, let it be the alternator. Or the air-conditioner belt. Maybe the radiator hose?"

The LORD: "I think I'll let it all happen -- a double whammy, so to speak. She should have been smart enough to not buy a lemon. That should amply make up for the cost of the gas she stole. Too bad she did not know that the assembly-line gal who put together that water pump "wanted to do something different" just for spite in retaliation against a boyfriend she had fornicated with the night before who afterward slapped her up, and so the assembly-line gal deliberately put inferior-quality parts into the pump. Which assembly-line gal, incidently, herself had to replace the catalytic converter in her vehicle because some cheated-on guy who wanted to retaliate against society in general put Clorox into her car's gas tank when she wasn't looking."

Mike: "So what happened to that guy?"

The LORD: "It's a long story, and it goes on and on concerning one person after after down the line. And there are hundreds of thousands like them, guilty of doing one thing or another, and being paed baak accordingly . . . however, whenever, and wherever. I watch it all, do my thing, so I'm never bored."

Mike: "Cool. How about the gas station manager who got his gas stolen?

The LORD: "It's not everyone who gets that large an inheritance from their rich uncles when they pass away."

Mike: "Kinky. Getting back to that snit who stole gas at the gas station. How about a bonus?"

The LORD: "Not a bad idea. I think that I'll make an example out of this one, being that she just bragged to her friends on Facebook how she stole the gas and thinks that she got away with it. Zuckerberg has a huge audience."

Mike: "So does Bill Gates. What do you have in mind?"

The LORD: Oh Oh. Look . . . someone just accidentally backed into her rear fender while she was on her lethally-overheating laptap boasting about her stolen-gas shenanigan. And they are not even leaving a note so she can find out who did it."

Mike: "As Brad Pitt might exclaim in the presence of Matt Damon: Ooof!"

The LORD: "Wow, is she ever miffed discovering that big dent! Fixing that should cost her a pretty penny."

Mike: "More than that."

The LORD: "Right on. But I'm not done yet. Wow, she's so angry as she's exceeding the speed limit driving along in the dark, she did not even see the police in that squad car on the roadside who just saw her nor that nail at the bottom of that huge pothole she just ran over. Now she has a flat. And there goes her tie rod. My, those flashing red and blue strobelights are sure pretty."

Mike: "As Brad Pitt might also exclaim in the presence of George Clooney: Oooooo! Double her pleasure, double her fun, with Double-Mint, Double-Mint, Double-Mint Gum."

The LORD: "Haven't heard that one in a long time. Sounds as if you like casino gambling."

Mike: "She'd walk a mile for a camel."

The LORD: "And Trix are for kids. Well, that should really make up for the gas she stole."

Mike: "All this is eerily reminiscent of the ancient curses found in Deuteronomy 28:15-68. Do you think she'll associate all her misfortune and the huge consequential cost to her by her remembering that she stole gas back at that gas station?"

The LORD: "I'll put that idea into her head so she does remember. I'm good at that. Hopefully she will never do it again."

Mike: "Fat chance. She seems like the kind of arrogant impenitent-twit snot who will do even worse next time."

The LORD: "I'm ready for more, no matter how far she wants to take it. The sky's the limit."

Mike: "Sounds like a plan."
