Why Pray?

Economically-astute GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has stated, during one of the televised debates, that Americans should do to other countries like Americans would like other countries to do to them.

His contextual intent had to do with not irresponsibly (and expensively!) bombing and killing sovereign and relatively innocent peasants within their foreign countries, and thus not needlessly inciting and angering them (particularly resulting in massive and foolish draining of financial resources).

That "Golden-Rule" premise is, of course, concordant with:

Proverbs 3:29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor who resides trustingly beside you.
Proverbs 3:30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm.
Luke 6:31 And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them.
Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Philippians 2:4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Especially noxious to Rep. Paul is counterproductive insanity bent on arrogantly and divisively engaging - without probable cause - in "preemptive" war:

Micah 2:8 But you rise against my people as an enemy; you strip the robe from the peaceful, from those who pass by trustingly with no thought of war.

James 4:1 From where do wars and fightings among you come? Is it not from this, from your lusts which war in your members?
2 You desire, and do not have. You murder, and are jealous, and cannot obtain. You fight and war, yet you have not because you ask not.
3 You ask and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your lusts.
4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity against (not "with") God? Therefore whoever desires to be a friend of the world is the enemy against (not "of") God.
5 Or do you suppose it is in vain that the Scripture says, "He yearns jealously over the spirit which He has made to reside in us"?
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble."
7 Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you

. Ah! "Asking" - but not receiving - according to verses 3 and 4 above.

The religious call it "prayer." Even petitions of non-secular religious cultic to whatever idols they deify is called "prayer:"

Isaiah 45:20 Assemble yourselves and come, draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that [and not even "who"] cannot save.

"Praying" - again - has a definite religious connotation, irrespectively of who or what is "prayed" to. Not linguistically prevalent in the semantics of secular humanists, it is - however - generally associated closely with worship, adoration, reverence, and humility involving a respectful relationship if not even rather intimate companionship between the praying one and the one prayed to.

What do we (or should I instead have said: "you?") pray for? Good weather? Health? More cigarettes, the ultimate barefoot/naked-teens galleries or XXX-rated downloadable videos on the internet, to phone a cute but cheap non-decoy outcall masseuse or escort harlot into bed with us, more booze, a new tattoo, the latest X-Box video game, to win the Powerball jackpot? Anticipated execution against defiantly-outspoken homogay activists and agitators who don't ask and don't tell enemy soldiers during battlefront wars in the Middle East? And if we do "pray" for any or all such, WHO do we present such petitions to? And then do we REALLY expect our requests to be granted by the One or one(s) petitioned to?

Speaking of porn, mis-attired or non-attired obscene imagery of particularly female humans is much like storing nerve gas . . . intended to cautiously and reluctantly be used for dire-emergency redress against non-solicited indecent-conduct attack.

Such is the dilemma not simply of the military with their storehouses of everything from VX to nuclear weapons, but also of museum curators and guards consigned to protect so-called "masterpieces" of nude paintings and sculptures, not to mention administrators of search portals like Google, Dogpile, and Yahoo - monetarily and reputationally obligated to portray and facilitate access to URL-named links of virtually thousands and thousands of various enticing and various disgusting pornsites on the Web.

What is the answer to not being guilty of being an accomplice of conspiracy in promoting licentuousness and lasciviousness on the tube?

Ephesians 5:3 But fornication and all impurity or covetousness must not even be suggested among you, as is fitting among saints.
First Peter 4:3 Let the time that is past suffice for doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in licentiousness, passions, drunkenness, revels, carousing, and lawless idolatry.

In other words, if one does not ask for it, one might not get it.

Not always, though.

The probability [that a typical man, living and moving around normally in America, during warm late-spring and summer and autumn days of 2012, will see at least some non-asked-for display of female loose long hair and/or sleevelessly naked arms, nude legs in shortened skirts or shorts, and parts of soxless bare feet in flipflop sandals] . . is greater than 99.9%

So, hidden porn and prostitutes can and sometimes are consequentially and quickly retrieved and requisitioned:

Romans 14:15 If your brother is being injured by [how you are immodestly misdressed with mopheadedness, bared arms or legs or feet in sandals], you are no longer walking in love. Do not let [your partially-indecent hairstyle or "seasonal" fashions] cause the ruin of one for whom Christ died.

Hence, Christ's remark of immodesty-polluted and immodesty-polluting people comprising and being confined within "an evil and adulterous generation" is as pertinent and applicable nowadays here in the United States and in Europe as it was to the ancient Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Colossians, and other ancestral parents of present-day sexual offenders.

Is escape possible through earnest and persistent petitions of "prayer?"

Realistically, complete escape is practically impossible, being that:

Matthew 18:7 Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the man (or woman - being that the Greek word is: anthr(o)p(o), from where we get our both-genders word: "anthropology") by whom the temptation comes!

God does need some cooperation for us to overcome sexually-alluring immodesty-inciting temptations, because although He does much to neither "lead us into temptation" (which we could not handle by ourselves) but instead "delivers us from evil" (by all sorts of ways and means), the admonitions:

Matthew 26:41 "Watch" and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Mark 14:38 "Watch" and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

. . . have to be applied correctly, in that to avoid "watching" images of immodestly-misattired human females on TV, in newsprint, and actual full-sized bodies out and about . . . we have to 'watch OUT' against (and not "for") such . . . by means of how the following verses describe:

Isaiah 29:9 Stupefy yourselves and be in a stupor, blind yourselves and be blind! Be drunk, but not with wine; stagger, but not with strong drink!
Isaiah 42:19 Who is blind but my servant, or deaf as my messenger whom I send? Who is blind as my dedicated one, or blind as the servant of the LORD?

Matthew 5:28 But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:29 And if your right eye [or TV channel, internet access, flashdrive, newspaper or magazines subscription, secret self-sodomizing/masturbating place, etc.] offends you, pluck it out and throw it from you. For it is profitable for you that one of your members [or electronic toys] should perish, and not that your whole body should be thrown into hell.
Matthew 18:9 And if your eye offends you, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.
Mark 9:47 And if your eye offends you, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes to be thrown into hell fire.

Clearly, it behooves the righteous to be "blind" to prospective or potential visually-assaultive sexual harassment of mopheadedness, naked arms, nude legs, and bared feet:

Deuteronomy 23:14 Because the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to save you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, that he may not see anything indecent among you, and turn away from you.

Proverbs 4:15 Avoid [evil]; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.
Proverbs 13:19 A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul; but to turn away from [immodest and pornographic] evil is an abomination to fools.

Ezekiel 14:6 Therefore say to the house of Israel, "Thus says the Lord GOD: 'Repent and turn away from your [immodest fashions, styles, magazines, videos, and erotic-"art" idols; and turn away your faces from all your [indecently-exposed] abominations.' "

Romans 16:17 I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them.

First Peter 3:11 . . . let him (and her) turn away from [immodest and indecent] evil and do right; let him (and her) seek [no-sexual-misdress-titillating] peace and pursue it.

Would or do your "friends" or neighbors gossip about you, presuming that you're "goofy," "weird," "judgmental," "holier-than-thou," "missing all the fun," "brainwashed," or "repulsively-pious" for abstaining? Do they falsely predict that you are a loser and supporting a loser by not joining "the most recent ["popular" or "majority"] poll of perverts, like mindless lemmings following each other over the cliff in 'monkey-see/monkey-do' suicidal self-annihilation?

Psalm 119:51 Godless men complete ridicule me, but I do not turn away from Your law.

First Peter 4:4 They are surprised that you do not now join them in the same wild profligacy, and they abuse you;
First Peter 4:5 but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

WHICH should it be?

Numbers 14:9 Only, do not rebel against the LORD; and do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us; their protection is removed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.

Deuteronomy 20:3 and shall say to them, 'Hear, O Israel, you draw near this day to battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint; do not fear, or tremble, or be in dread of them.'
31:6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear or be in dread of them: for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.
31:8 It is the LORD who goes before you; He will be with you, He will not fail you or forsake you; do not fear or be dismayed.

Joshua 10:8 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands; there shall not a man of them stand before you."

Psalm 118:6 With the LORD on my side I do not fear. What can man do to me?

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man lays a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD is safe.

Isaiah 8:12 Do not call conspiracy all that this people call conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread.

Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in Hell.

So, asking True Deity to assist one to do the above without cooperation is destined to miserable failure and both humiliating and embarrassing defeat.

And one first must honestly believe that the deity to whom requests are uttered not merely actually exists but also is probably willing to be of help:

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that He (NOT "she") exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.

[Thank God that Sarah Palin and Migraine Michele never yet became a heartbeat away from the Presidency!]

But, is it not "embarrassing" to ask their deity for help, or - in other words - petition Him in "prayer?" For those in desperation, and who believe that the deity petitioned is quite likely to aid and rescue them, the humiliation factor is non-applicable. Similarly, commands of authority from deity intended to protect and preserve the life of those commanded does not involve substantial stigma on the part of either the commander nor the commanded, although petitioning impotent deities does result in red-faced shame and disappointment:

First Kings 18:17 When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, "Is it you, you troubler of Israel?"
18 And he answered, "I have not troubled Israel; but you have, and your father's house, because you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and followed the Baals." [Throw the condemnatory false accusation right back at him!]
24 And you call on [i.e. "pray to"] the name of your god and I will call on the name of the LORD; and the God who answers by fire, he is God." And all the people answered, "It is well spoken."
26 And they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, "Oh Baal, answer us!" But there was no voice, and no one answered. And they limped about the altar which they had made.
27 And at noon Elijah mocked them, saying, "Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is musing, or he has gone aside, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened."
28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their custom with swords and lances, until the blood gushed out upon them.
29 And as midday passed, they raved on until the time of the offering of the oblation, but there was no voice; no one answered, no one paid attention.
36 And at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, "O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. [and I did not make all this up myself]
37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that you, LORD, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back."
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The LORD, he is God; the LORD, he is God."
40 And Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape." [NO appeals for clemency, NO parole, NO plea-bargaining] And they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and killed them there. [So much for anti-theocratic-government political-dissident traitors]

Bummer. For the cultic pagans, that is.

In fact, petitions (or "prayers," if you will) are much like requests made to a spouse, a buddy, a dad or mom, a brother or sister, a close friend. "Prayer" requests usually involve asking for something needed, and something the asked one can reasonably be expected to adequately provide - but not to impose outlandish and impossible-to-fulfill demands:

Deuteronomy 6:16 You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.

Malachi 3:10 Bring the full tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house; and thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.
Malachi 3:14 You have said, "It is vain to serve God. What is the good of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the LORD of hosts?
Malachi 3:15 From now on we deem the arrogant blessed; evildoers not only prosper but when they put God to the test they escape."

Matthew 22:18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put me to the test, you hypocrites?
Mark 12:15 Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, "Why put me to the test? Bring me a coin, and let me look at it."
Luke 10:25 And hey, a lawyer stood up to put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher [and note that he did not use the word: 'Lord' as non-Christian cultic also do not use it], what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
First Corinthians 10:9 We must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents.

Some have illogically presumed (against the impossible-to-contradict, forthright, and non-conquerably-indisputable testimony of The Bible) that the Creator (who Christians know as Jesus Christ according to John chapter 1, Colossians chapter 1, and Hebrews chapter 1) started things in motion and then irresponsibly and carelessly left it all to run on its own without further "intrusion" - however long or short it had been intended by Him to run and then no longer run. That would contradict why He began anything and everything at all in the first place of and within the Universe. The purportedly senseless creation of such very-real, sensually-detectable, awesome power and intricately-integrated interdependent complexity of what is measurably finite in terms of beginning and ending, start and finish . . . would illogically eliminate His own eternal pre-existence and post-existence along with His superior-to-everything supernatural existence beyond what He created. In that case, His entire work in creating what exists would have been quite useless and pointless, not to mention absurd.

Granted, not all "prayers" are requests for perceived or imagined needs. Some communications to genuine Deity consist of thanks, gratitude, and expressions of joy.

But those consisting of hopefully-reasonable and sensible petitions of necessity involve prediction or prophesy of something to be done in the future:

Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no prophecy the people throw off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Romans 12:6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith.

First Corinthians 14:1 Make love your aim, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.
14:5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless some one interprets, so that the church may be edified.
14:24 But if all prophesy, and a disbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all
14:31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged
14:39 So, my brethren, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

James 4:14 . . . whereas you do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said to me, Stop! I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Why pray if we are not sure God will answer our specific requests as precisely specified? What if He has other things in mind? Is it often a waste of time to mouth perhaps inevitable-to-never-occur petitions?

For those who are totally submitted to Christ Jesus as Redeemer and Lord, who are possessed by the Holy Spirit and therefore have "the mind of Christ," the Lord Himself causes His penitent ones to ask reasonable, logical, and sometimes imaginative requests originating from Him which He fully intends to accomplish:

Genesis 24:57 They said, "We will call the maiden, and ask her." [No forced marriage!]
Genesis 32:29 Then Jacob asked [the Non-Beatable Wrestler], "Tell me, I pray, your name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?" And there he blessed him.
Genesis 34:12 Ask of me ever so much as marriage present and gift, and I will give according as you say to me; only give me the maiden to be my wife."
Judges 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?"

First Kings 2:17 And he said, "Please ask King Solomon --he will not refuse you-- to give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife."
22 King Solomon answered his mother, "And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he is my elder brother, and on his side are Abiathar the priest and Joab the son of Zeruiah."
23 Then King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me and more also if this word does not cost Adonijah his life!
24 Now therefore as the LORD lives, who has established me, and placed me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day."
25 So King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he struck him down, and he died. [Understandable and justifiable way to get rid of a treasonous political opponent!]

First Kings 3:5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask what I shall give you."

Second Kings 2:9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you." And Elisha said, "I beg you, let me inherit a double share of your spirit."

Second Chronicles 1:7 In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask what I shall give you."

Psalm 2:8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.

Isaiah 7:11 "Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven."
Isaiah 7:12 But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test." [Wrong move, with wrong words!]

Isaiah 65:1 I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me; I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, "Here am I, here am I," to a nation that did not call on my name.

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus says the LORD: "Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths [NOT the latest worldly fad], where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'
Jeremiah 15:2 And when they ask you, 'Where shall we go?' you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD: "Those who are for pestilence, to pestilence, and those who are for the sword, to the sword; those who are for famine, to famine, and those who are for captivity, to captivity.' "

Zechariah 10:1 Ask rain from the LORD in the season of the spring rain, from the LORD who makes the storm clouds, who gives men showers of rain, to every one the vegetation in the field.

Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Matthew 18:19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
Matthew 21:22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith."

Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Luke 11:9 And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Luke 11:13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"

John 4:9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
8:7 And as they continued to ask Him, He stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her."
14:13 Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;
14:14 if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
15:7 If you stay in me, and my words stay in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you [a great fact for Lutherans to remind Baptists of] and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should remain; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, He may give it to you.
16:24 Up to now you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
16:26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you . .

Acts 10:29 So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me." [Effective advice for a single gal to receive a first-date invitation]
Acts 10:32 Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter; he is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the seaside.' [Effective advice for a single guy to give a first-date invitation]

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him.
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

First John 3:22 and we receive from Him whatever we ask, because we keep His (NOT "her") commandments and do what pleases Him.
5:7 [KJV, MKJV, KJ21, LIT, JPS - not RSV nor NIV] For there are three who (NOT "That") bear record in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one.
5:14 And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. [doing more than merely "hear" us?]
5:15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him. [or going to obtain them, sooner than later?]
5:16 If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that.

Mortal? Curse God, and die? Blaspheme the Holy Spirit?

Ecclesiastes 5:2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven, and you upon earth; therefore let your words be few.
Ecclesiastes 5:6 Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the Messenger that it was a mistake; why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?

It behooves both yours truly and the reader to contemplate some further enlightenment regarding that:

Job 33:19 Man is also chastened with pain upon his bed, and with continual strife in his bones;
20 so that his life loathes bread, and his appetite dainty food.
21 His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen; and his bones which were not seen stick out.
22 His soul draws near the Pit, and his life to those who bring death.
23 If there be for him an angel, a mediator, one of the thousand, to declare to man what is right for him;
24 and he is gracious to him, and says, "Deliver him from going down into the Pit, I have found a ransom;
25 let his flesh become fresh with youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor';
26 then man prays to God, and He accepts him, he comes into His presence with joy. He recounts to men his salvation,
27 and he sings before men, and says: "I sinned, and perverted what was right, and it was not requited to me.
28 He has redeemed my soul from going down into the Pit, and my life shall see the light.'
29 Hey, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man,
30 to bring back his soul from the Pit, that he may see the light of life.

Job 34:21 For his eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps.
22 There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves.
23 For He has not appointed a time for any man to go before God in judgment.
24 He shatters the mighty without investigation, and sets others in their place.
25 Thus, knowing their works, He overturns them in the night, and they are crushed.
26 He strikes them for their wickedness in the sight of men,
27 because they turned aside from following Him, and had no regard for any of His ways,
28 so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him, and He heard the cry of the afflicted.
29 When He is quiet, who can condemn? When He hides his face, who can detect Him - whether it be a nation or a man -
30 that a godless man should not reign, that he should not ensnare the people.
31 For has any one said to God, "I have borne chastisement; I will not offend any more;
32 teach me what I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'?
33 Will He then make requital to suit you, because you reject it? For you must choose, and not I; therefore declare what you know.

Job 35:6 If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against Him? And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to Him?
7 If you are righteous, what do you give to Him; or what does He receive from your hand?
8 Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself, and your righteousness a son of man.
12 There they cry out, but He does not answer, because of the pride of evil men.
13 Surely God does not hear an empty cry, nor does the Almighty regard it.
14 How much less when you say that you do not see Him, that the case is before Him, and you are waiting for Him!
15 And now, because His anger does not punish, and He does not greatly heed transgression,
16 [You open your] mouth in empty talk; [you multiply] words without knowledge.

Job 36:5 Hey, God is mighty, and does not despise any; He is mighty in strength of understanding.
6 He does not keep the wicked alive, but gives the afflicted their right.
7 He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous, but with kings upon the throne He sets them forever, and they are exalted.
8 And if they are bound in fetters and caught in the cords of affliction,
9 then He declares to them their work and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly.
10 He opens their ears to instruction, and commands that they return from iniquity.
11 If they comply and serve Him, they complete their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasantness.
12 But if they do not comply, they perish by the sword, and die without knowledge.
13 The godless in heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when He binds them.
14 They die in youth, and their life ends in shame among the cult prostitutes.
15 He delivers the afflicted by their affliction, and opens their ear by adversity.
16 He also allured you out of distress into a broad place where there was no cramping, and what was set on your table was full of fatness.
17 But you are full of the judgment on the wicked; judgment and justice seize you.
18 Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing; and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.
19 Will your cry avail to keep you from distress, or all the force of your strength?
20 Do not long for the night, when peoples are cut off in their place.
21 Watch out, do not turn to iniquity, for this you have chosen rather than affliction.
22 Hey, God is exalted in His power; who is a teacher like Him?
23 Who has prescribed for Him his way, or who can say, "You have done wrong'?

Job 37:13 Whether for correction, or for His land, or for love, He causes it to happen.
16 Do you know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge,
17 you whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind?
18 Can you, like Him, spread out the skies, hard as a molten mirror?
19 Teach us what we shall say to Him; we cannot draw up our case because of darkness.
20 Shall it be told Him that I would speak? Did a man ever wish that he would be swallowed up?
21 And now men cannot look on the light when it is bright in the skies, when the wind has passed and cleared them.
22 Out of the north comes [aurora-borealis] golden splendor; God is clothed with terrifying majesty.

Whether praying for a job, praying to discover and acquire a wife, or whatever, the petitioner and Petitioned have to be on good terms with each other. The request must be reasonable, under the circumstances, and intended for noble and useful purposes for all entities, because - if it is not - dangerous or dire results will follow:

Genesis 38:18 He said, "What guarantee shall I give you?" She replied, "Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand." So he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him.

Psalm 78:29 And they ate and were well filled, for he gave them what they craved.
Psalm 106:15 he gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease among them.

Mark 5:13 So he gave them leave [after the demons asked to relocate]. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered the swine; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and were drowned in the sea. Much scurrilous slander and condemnatory accusations are found in the no-backresponse-possible rather-anonymous webpage http://www.realchange.org/gingrich.htm and similar sites. How much is fact, and how much is fiction?

In any case, it is interesting to note the reaction of King David when confronted by the actually-having-occurred potentially-Divinely-lethal accusations of Nathan the Prophet in the Old Testament of the Judeo-Christian (Old-&-New-Testament) Holy Bible pertaining to the actually-having-occurred event of David indirectly-but-directly conspiring to murder Uriah the Hittite after the actually-having-occurred phenomenon of David committing adultery with murdered-Uriah's beautiful exhibitionist wife Bathsheba (who was actually bathing - probably nude - in the general public view of David).

Moreover, there are ample indications that the Christians-persecutor-pharisee trying-to-please-God Saul actually did see the Light on the Damascus road according to the New-Testament book of Acts which (or, better yet, Who) definitively and genuinely changed him into completely-opposite-intentions-and-actions still-trying-to-please-God Saint Paul.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson's words state in Ralph Vaughn William's Sea Symphony:

Yet soul be sure
The first intent remains
And shall be carried out.

The contest of GOP presidential candidates would be more interesting, less confusing, and better for the country as a whole, if (at the time of this writing) both non-commander-in-chief-type mere-economics-professor Ron Paul and pro-choice/homogay-nondiscrimination tricky-semantics Mitt Romney dropped out of the race and left Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich to compete against each other.

Accusator Santorum would seriously decimate Barack "Barry Soetoro" Hussein Obama in debate, without much diversionary baggage to interfere.

Because of the righteous remnant of Hebrews:

Acts 13:19 And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave them their land as an inheritance, (and please omit the antisemitic added words within the mistranslated RSV: ". . . for about four hundred and fifty years . . ").

GOP presidential candidates Gingrich and Santorum (the Big Two at the time of this writing) agree that defunding adversarial countries of American foreign aid is in order.

Hopefully, they will continue to agree to keep on with the monthly Social Security checks for those 60 and over:

Genesis 45:11 and there I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come; lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty.'
Genesis 50:21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones." Thus he reassured them and comforted them.

Leviticus 19:32 You shall rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the LORD.

Ezekiel 34:29 And I will provide for them prosperous [negroid-segregated?] plantations so that they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer suffer the reproach of the nations.

Luke 10:7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his [F.I.C.A.-paid-in] wages; do not go from house to house.

First Timothy 5:8 If any one does not provide for his relatives [whether with welfare or employment?], and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a disbeliever. [Jobs, Jobs, Jobs . . right, Gingo & Santo?]

Mere-economics-professor non-commander-in-chief-type obstinatrician Ron Paul needs to be cautious about depriving foreign aid to America's allies overseas - particularly Israel - who functions as first defense against tyrannical islamic-terrorist kamakazes, which Israel needs Christian military and economic support to defend themselves against nutcase kooks who in hatefully-malicious hostility have not and do not obey the Golden Rule, who have "drawn first blood" in non-deserved lethal satanic aggression . . . which Israelis should be protected, because such Jews are Scripturally "beloved for the sake of their forefathers," "entrusted with the oracles of God," being that "salvation is of the Jews" -- as the Master-Jew Jesus and master-jew Paul reminded us.
